Travelling has been a considerable part of family life as we followed work around the globe and of course many photographs have been taken in all kinds of situations - mostly good, some difficult, terrain wise. Backpacking with cameras has been a constant problem partly due to their size and partly due to the impossibility of carrying a tripod. Now that compact cameras have arrived the first part has been solved but not quite the second. With our photos in albums fading it was time to get the interesting shots on disk but it was not a comforting surprise to find how many times one of us was not there but taking the photo. The 'empty chair' we call it. Whatever we had in the future had to be ultra light, pack flat, fit all compact cameras and slide into the smallest side pocket of a backpack or jacket - no major lumps or bumps. This we have done.
Developed over two years primarily for those who usually travel in sometimes difficult or extreme situations it soon became obvious, from comments as we trialled various designs, that there was a far wider interest in the unit and where you can use it. A remark was made that you could leave it permanently in a backpack or a car glove box and forget all about until the moment came to use it. And they were right.
